"On behalf of the Board, I want to thank you for your handling of this difficult task.  You were dealing with not only a serious underlying issue, you also dealt with various vendors, my constant calls for updates and two very angry members. You really went above and beyond and it is very much appreciated. Equally important is that we are in a much better position to handle this type of issue in the future because of your work on this one.
